5 Reasons Why You Should Stay at Parklane Bohol Resort & Spa on Your Next Visit to Bohol Philippines | Blog Review + Rates

Bohol is known for its various tourist spots and attractions such as chocolate hills, Loboc river, Bohol Bee Farm, and is also home to the smallest primates in the world – tarsiers.  Apart from these, Bohol also boasts its white sand beaches. The most popular of which is Alona beach in Panglao Island.

Bohol is undoubtedly one of my favorite destinations in The Philippines. As someone who wants peace and quiet, we always stay in the less crowded Dumaluan beach in Panglao Island and we always ensure that we get to stay at Bohol Beach Club for our accommodation.

Less Popular Tourist Destination in Bohol

Since I’m travelling solo for this trip, I decided to go somewhere in Bohol that I’ve never been to, and that made decide to visit Anda, a less popular destination among tourists visiting Bohol. This municipality is  roughly 120 km away from Panglao where both Alona and Dumaluan beaches are located. Unknown to many, Anda has a number of tourist spots such as Cagbanow Cave Pool, Anda long beach/Quinale beach, and Talisay beach.

Where to Stay in Anda, Bohol?

Prior to my trip, I started researching for the best beach resort in Anda, Bohol to feature in my YouTube channel. I stumbled upon a vlog of Finding Paradise and narrowed my choices to three beach resorts in Anda based on his recommendations – Amun Ini Beach Resort & Spa, Anda Pearl Premiere, and Parklane Bohol Resort & Spa. Amun Ini, being the most luxurious resort in Anda, was way out of my budget so I was left with Anda Pearl and Parklane Bohol Resort & Spa. I ended up choosing the latter as the reservation was professional, warm and more responsive to my queries.

I should say that I made the right choice as I really enjoyed my stay at Parklane Resort & Spa.

Here are the 5 reasons why you should stay at Parklane Bohol Resort & Spa on your next Bohol trip:

 1. Luxurious and Spotlessly Clean Room

Since I’m on a budget, I booked a deluxe room which is the cheapest room type at Parklane Bohol. I was assigned to room number 2203 which is on the 2nd floor.  To my surprise, the room is very nice and is luxurious! The vibe is the same with other luxury resorts in Bohol like Bohol Beach Club and Mithi Resort & Spa.

High quality queen-size bed and pillows. I had a restful stay here!

The room I had was facing the resort’s restaurant and has a partial view of the ocean. The room comes with a queen-size bed and an en suite toilet & bath with toiletries. There’s also a TV with cable channels, mini refrigerator, coffee and tea area, and a work area. I was also delighted as the room has a balcony with a dinette set.

What really impressed me is that the room is spotlessly clean. I can truly say that they have high standards in terms of cleanliness most especially when they made up the room during my second day at the resort.

2. Good Customer Service

If you follow my YouTube channel, you probably know that I’m particular with customer service, especially among high-end accommodations.

Parklane Bohol Resort & Spa is not the most expensive beach resort I’ve tried in Bohol, so prior to my visit, I had low expectations about their service. Come my stay, I should say that customer service at Parklane Bohol Resort & Spa exceeded my expectations. All the staff, are warm and accommodating.

Upon arrival, the reception was warm and the check-in process was fast. The concierge immediately assisted me with my luggage and led me to my room. All the F&B staff along with the housekeeping were very warm and welcoming too!

After checking-in and shooting a room tour for my vlog, I went to the restaurant for late lunch. I barely finished the serving of “humba” I ordered as it was good for 2 to 3 persons. Macmac, one of their staff offered that they can keep and refrigerate the leftover so that I can still have it for my next meal. I really appreciated the gesture as the food itself and the money spent for it are valuable.

My first meal at Parklane Bohol
Humba

Being a person with disability, it’s really challenging for me to get food during buffets. I also appreciate that the staff are sensitive to the needs of Persons with Disabilities. One of their staff assisted me in getting food during buffet breakfast, which I highly appreciated. I have only experienced this high level of service in Bohol Beach Club, Miniloc Island Resort in Palawan, and Amihan Beach Cabanas in Cebu.

At the restaurant with the chef and Macmac.

Lastly, everytime I bump into as staff, they never fail to smile and say  “Maayong Buntag” which means “good morning” or “good day” if I’m not mistaken. Throughout my stay, I personally felt the genuine hospitality of Boholanos.

3. Exclusive and Private Beach

At Parklane Bohol Resort & Spa, you get to enjoy a private beach exclusive for the resort’s guests.  For me, the highlight is the crystal clear turquoise waters of the beach. It was Amihan season when I visited so the shore is smaller and the weather was cloudy but I still had a great time swimming in the exclusive beach.

Look at the crystal clear turquoise water!

Apart from the beach, guests also get to enjoy 3 swimming pools overlooking the beautiful and relaxing ocean.

If you are adventurous, they also offer various activities.

  • Kayak (double) – 450 Php / hour
  • Crystal kayak – 550 Php / hour
  • Paddle board – 150 Php / hour
  • Body board – 200 Php / hour
  • Snorkeling gear rental – 150 Php / hour
  • Life jacket rental – 100 Php / hour
  • Videoke – 500 Php / hour
  • Billiard – 200 / hour

4. Value For Money

At Parklane Bohol Resort & Spa, given the quality of the rooms, facilities, and customer service, you will truly get the value for your money. Their rates are definitely more affordable compared to resorts in Bohol most especially in Panglao.

If you are a senior-citizen or a PWD. They also honor discounts, Being a PWD, I booked my room at only 4,400 Php a night.

5. Less Crowded

And finally, being far from the more popular Alona beach in Panglao, there are less tourists in Anda. This is perfect if you are looking for a less crowded place to relax and enjoy your vacation.

Overall, I enjoyed my stay at Parklane Bohol Resort & Spa. For now, I can not say if this is the best beach resort in Anda as I have yet to try the other resorts such as Amun Ini Resort & Spa and Anda Pearl Premiere. However, I’m definitely including Parklane Bohol Resort & Spa in my highly recommended resorts in Bohol!

Farm Staycation in Pampanga – Sunset Villa at Organic Sunset Farm | Blog Review + Rates

Apart from being the culinary capital of The Philippines, Pampanga has also become a home to a number of beautiful staycation spots. One of which is Organic Sunset Farm.

Sunset Villa at Organic Sunset Farm Pampanga Staycation

How to get there?

Organic Sunset Farm is located along Megadike Access Road in Bacolor, Pampanga, Philippines. This farm staycation in Pampanga is close to Manila and very accessible. Getting there is easy. You can use waze or Google maps to navigate to the farm.

Since we’re coming from Taguig, we took Skyway stage 3, drove along NLEX and took San Fernando, Pampanga exit. We drove along Jose Abad Santos Avenue then took Megadike access road.  There’s a signage of Organic Sunset Farm along Megadike access road so you won’t get lost.

In total, it took us 2 hours to get to Organic Sunset Farm. But please note that travel time of course still depends on the traffic conditions. Also, there are no rough roads going to the farm.

We Keep on Coming Back

This is already our fourth time staying at Organic Sunset Farm. We are very excited as it’s one of our favorites among all the staycation spots near Manila. We’ve tried all of their accommodations in the past—the Loft Villa, Master Villa, and Sunset Villa 1. For this visit, we are trying Sunset Villa 2.

Sunset Villa 2

Exclusive Sunset Villa

Organic Sunset Farm has 3 Sunset Villas and each villa is good for 2 PAX. Perfect for couples who are looking for a relaxing staycation in Pampanga. The Sunset Villa is also gated, thus, you get to enjoy privacy and exclusivity throughout your stay.

As you enter the gated villa, to the left is a cabana, which is a perfect spot to simply chill, relax, and enjoy your complimentary breakfast. The villa also features an Instagram-worthy plunge pool. On the other end of the pool is a dining area for two. Beside the dining is a mini kitchen which includes an induction cooker, rice cooker, and basic cooking utensils. There’s also a microwave oven and a mini refrigerator. They provide drinking water for free as well.

The villa itself is air-conditioned and it comes with a comfortable queen-size bed with 4 pillows, a smart TV with YouTube and Netflix, a coffee table set, luggage rack and an en-suite open-concept toilet & bath with hot and cold shower. They also provide bath towels, body wash, shampoo and conditioner.

Stylish and Hotel-Like

The Sunset Villa is exclusive, stylish and unique. Given that it’s in a farm set-up, you’ll feel like you are inside a hotel room while inside the villa. I’m no architect but I should say that the overall design and architecture of the villa is nice as well.

Farm Staycation in Pampanga

Being a farm stay, at Organic Sunset Farm, there’s more beyond staying in a beautiful farm villa. They have a vegetable farm and a green house with various vegetables. The property also has a huge pond with fishes and an area with hundreds of ducks.

I super enjoyed feeding these ducks!

Among all farm stays we’ve visited, I should say that Organic Sunset Farm will truly make you feel and experience 100% farm life. We truly enjoyed the animal feeding and the experience of feeding hundreds of ducks was amazing!  Guests can also experience vegetable picking where the 1st kilo of harvested vegetables are free! Succeeding kilos is only 200 Php per kilo. Same goes with fishing, 1st kilo is free and 200 Php for every succeeding kilo of fishes.

Other Things to Note

  • They don’t serve food except for complimentary breakfast. You may utilize the villa’s mini kitchen or you can simply order via Grab food. There’s also a nearby buffet restaurant which I highly recommend – Bale Capampangan.
  • Since this is a farm stay, there may be presence of insects which are totally normal. Just in case, bring insect repellant.
  • Check-in is at 2 PM and check-out is 11 AM the next day

Where to Stay in Aborlan Palawan Philippines? Surya Beach Palawan Review

Surya Beach Palawan

Palawan is definitely one among the beautiful vacation and holiday destinations in the Philippines. Palawan offers an array of beautiful places to visit. If you are planning to travel to Palawan, the popular tourist destinations are  El Nido, Coron and Puerto Princesa.

Surya Beach Palawan

For someone who longs to explore new places, we decided to try Surya Beach Palawan in one of the least popular destinations in Palawan – the municipality of Aborlan. Prior to our visit, I checked online for videos specifically about Aborlan and Surya Beach Palawan. I watched one video and was amazed by the unique beauty of the place! Truly, it’s a less explored and hidden paradise in Palawan!

Aborlan, Palawan

Transfers

Surya Beach Palawan offers airport transfers and travel time from Puerto Princesa City to the resort is 2 hours. In our case, since we are in Puerto Princesa already as we’ve stayed at The Funny Lion Puerto Princesa for 3 nights, we asked Surya Beach Palawan to pick us up at The Funny Lion.

Quiet and Serene Resort

We arrived at Surya Beach Palawan and we were the only guests at the resort. We immediately liked the place as it was quiet and serene. We felt like we had the entire resort and the beach to ourselves.

Sunset at Surya

Beachfront Villa

Since having a great view from our accommodation is one of our trip requirements, we booked the Beachfront Villa, as it offers the best view of the beach. The villa, which is actually an A-frame, can accommodate up to 7 persons, making it perfect for families or groups of friends. It includes a queen-size bed, 2 single beds, and another queen-size bed in the loft.

Beachfront Villa at Surya

Surprisingly, the villa comes with a Smart TV so you can watch your favorite Netflix series or watch your favorite YouTube channels. And note that their internet service provider is Starlink so the internet is ultra-fast. Additionally, the villa is equipped with a refrigerator, a coffee and tea area with an electric kettle, drinking glasses, mugs, and complimentary drinking water. However, please note that coffee is not provided, so be sure to bring your own.

Another pleasant surprise is the spacious and beautifully designed toilet & bath. Toiletries, towels, and guest kits are provided, which include a toothbrush, small toothpaste, and a small soap.

Our favorite spot is the veranda, equipped with a lounging area and a dining set, where you can relax and enjoy the breathtaking view of the beach.

Beachfront Villa Rates start at 5,400 Php a night. For bookings, please check-out their Cloudbeds listing.

Good Food

You can bring your own food to Surya and even cook there with corkage. However, since Surya has a chef and serves delicious dishes, I highly recommend ordering food from them.

Activities

In addition to enjoying the views and swimming, they offer relaxing beachside massages, but remember to book a day in advance. They also have kayaks but we were unable to try due to wavy conditions during our stay. At night, ask one of their staff to set-up a beach bonfire which is free of charge. Lastly, during low tide, stroll along the shore and appreciate the beach’s untouched beauty.

Overall, we had a restful and enjoyable stay at Surya Beach Palawan. The staff are very helpful, the beachfront villa is nice, the place is relaxing and serene. I can not gate keep this place as everyone needs to know that there’s a hidden paradise in Aborlan, Palawan!

Cheapest Beachfront Resort in Boracay Station 1? Casa Fiesta Boracay

If you are planning to visit the new Boracay but on a tight budget, you are probably looking for a cheap accommodation in the island. There are indeed numerous cheap hotels and accommodations in Boracay. But these properties are not beachfront. Most cheaply priced accommodations in Boracay are usually far from the white beach and are near the main road .

Casa Fiesta facade

Casa Fiesta facade

One of our goals is to find the cheapest beachfront resort in Station 1 during our recent Boracay trip. Since hotel or accommodation reservation is required before entering the island, we booked the cheapest Boracay beachfront room – Casa Fiesta.

Here’s my short video of Casa Fiesta Boracay:

Here’s my Boracay VLOG:

Good Location

Casa Fiesta is located in Boracay Station 1 which has the finest sands among the 3 stations. Casa Fiesta is situated in the most dense part of Station 1. Meaning, restaurants and bars are just an arm’s reach away. Nearby facilities are Original Hawaiian Bar-B-Que, Jona’s fruit shake, Starbucks, Yellow Cab Pizza, Free Willy Diving and All Flip-Flops.  It’s strategically located as it is just 3 to 5 minute walk to D’mall which is tourists’ primary go to place for dining and shopping. Casa Fiesta’s beachfront also serves as the pick-up point for Paraw sailing during sunset.

Casa Fiesta Map

Simple, Homey and Private

I like the simplicity of Casa Fiesta. It is not a fancy resort but the has this homey feel and vibe.

Unlike other Boracay hotels and accommodations, Casa Fiesta Boracay has a limited number of rooms. With a total of 8 rooms, the entire property is less dense and private.

Surprise Upgrade

We planned to stay in Boracay for 3 nights. Among all beachfront accommodations, Casa Fiesta’s rates are the cheapest in Agoda. So we booked our 3 nights stay with them. Booked our first 2 nights in a cheaper non beach view room and our last night on a more expensive beach view room. We were surprised as they gave us the beach view room for three nights!

Beach View Room

Beach view room at Casa Fiesta

Beach view room at Casa Fiesta

Jen and I were very happy for the room upgrade. The beach view room comes with a private veranda. Casa Fiesta is located in Station 1 with coconut trees accross the white beach. It was such a joy to get that tropical feel while relaxing on our room’s veranda.

View from our room's veranda

View from our room’s veranda

Our beach view air-conditioned room also comes with a queen size bed, an LCD TV and a dresser. The room is spacious. It can accommodate 4 persons. The toilet and bath is spacious too! It also has a hot & cold shower.

The room along with the toilet and bath are very clean. Not the type you get when staying in a high-end Boracay resorts like Shangri-la. Nonetheless, with the beach view, you truly get value for your money!

1,700 Pesos ($33) a night! Cheapest Boracay Beachfront Resort in Station 1?

Jen and I were certain that we got the cheapest possible beachfront room when we booked Casa Fiesta online. During our stay in the resort, we were surprised that their rates are way cheaper especially during off peak season! Here’s the complete Casa Fiesta Boracay room rates:

  • Off Season (June 16 to November 15) – 1,700 Php ($33) for 2 PAX
  • Peak Season (November 16 to June 15) – 2,700 Php ($53) for 2 PAX
  • High Peak Season (December 20 – January 3, Holy week) – 3,700 Php ($73) for 2 PAX

Extra person – 500 Php ($9.80) per night

Tip: Casa Fiesta easily gets fully booked especially during peak and high peak season. Book ahead of time and enjoy your discounted room HERE.

Friendly Staff

Casa Fiesta’s staff are friendly and welcoming! Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted and accommodated. During our 3 day stay, they were very kind to provide hot water every morning for our coffee. They even provided an extra pillow we requested. All the staff never fail to greet and smile at us every time we see them. We felt like we were staying in a relative’s house.

Highly Recommended Beachfront Resort in Boracay Station 1

If you are on a limited budget and is looking for a beachfront resort in Boracay, I would highly recommend Casa Fiesta! It is strategically located,  staff are very friendly and more importantly, you get a decent accommodation in a beachfront property at a very affordable price!!

LATEST LIST of Accredited Boracay Island Resorts, Hotels & Establishments as of November 7, 2018

After 6 months of closure, Boracay is finally open for tourists and visitors. The island started welcoming tourists last October 26, 2018. However, not all beach resorts, hotels, accommodations and establishments are given accreditation to operate. An establishment must first comply with the requirements by the Department of Natural Resources (DENR), Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) and must be accredited by the Department of Tourism (DOT). As of 1st week of November 2018, a total of 192 Boracay hotels, beach resorts and accommodations have been given go signal to accept reservations and bookings. Thus, can operate business as usual.

If you are planning for a vacation in Boracay, before making your reservations or booking, make sure that your chosen accommodation is included in the list of accredited beach resorts and hotels. Wondering if your favorite Boracay hotel is legal to operate? See below for the updated list of Boracay establishments with permit to operate as of November 7, 2018:

Important: You may be asked to present your hotel reservation slip before entering the island. This is to ensure your only booking with accredited Boracay beach resort or hotel and to prevent hassle upon arrival.

Tip: I am giving you huge discounts on your Boracay beach resort, hotel, accommodation if you book HERE.

Sadly, my favorite Boracay resort – Henann Prime Beach Resort is not yet included in the DOT list of accredited establishments. Hoping that Henann Group of Resorts in Boracay will soon open. I’ll be visiting Boracay this month (November 2018) and will accordingly update this blog post.

Cheap Accommodation in Batanes – DDD Habitat Lodging House Blog Review

DDD Habitat Lodging House Batanes opened its doors in 2009 and is one among the few affordable accommodations in the heart of Basco, Batanes. This lodging house has a total of 7 rooms named after the islands of Batanes. Located along Lopez St. in Brgy. Kayvaluganan, DDD Habitat Batanes is just walking distance from Batanes’ center of trade where local shops, eateries and restaurants are located. It is also a 5 minute ride from Basco airport.

We booked 2 accommodations for our 4 days and 3 nights stay in Batanes. We wanted to try a mid range Batanes accommodation so we booked at Amboy Hometel Batanes for our first night. Since it’s a bit expensive for us, we also booked DDD Habitat Batanes for our succeeding nights in Batanes.

Small and Simple Lodging House

I should say that I did not expect anything from DDD Habitat Batanes as we only paid 2,556 Php (51 USD) for two nights stay. That is very cheap compared to the 2,880.54 Php (58 USD) we paid for an overnight stay in Amboy Hometel Batanes.

Tip: The room rates mentioned above are discounted rates. I’m giving you huge discounts if you book your DDD Habitat Batanes room HERE.

The entire building of DDD Habitat Lodging House is small and simple. The simple set up of DDD Habitat is a reflection of the simple life of Ivatans. Just like any other lodging or transient houses I’ve been to, DDD Habitat Batanes has a homey atmosphere. There is also a common area for dining and kitchen that guests can use.

Room Upgrade

We checked-in at DDD Habitat Lodging House late afternoon after our South Batan tour. The discounted room for 2 PAX we booked at DDD Habitat is no longer available when we checked-in. We were surprised that we were given the larger and more expensive room instead! Thanks to DDD Habitat for the free upgrade!

Itbayat room at DDD Habitat

Itbayat room at DDD Habitat

We originally booked a Ditaram room which is good for 2 PAX but we were given Itbayat room which is good for 6 PAX!

The air-conditioned room is very clean and spacious. There are two double beds which are surprisingly comfortable for a budget accommodation. A side table with a mini lamp separates the two beds. There is also a small LCD TV with decent local channels. Basic toiletries are provided such as shampoo, soap and towels.  As for the toilet and bath, there is a hot and cold shower. The toilet also comes with a bidet. What we loved the most is the strong water pressure.

Being in the heart of Basco, there is cellular signal in DDD Habitat. However, cellular data is intermittent. Note though that I’m a Smart telecom subscriber.

Highly Recommended Accommodation in Batanes

If you are visiting the breathtaking Batanes and on a tight budget, I would highly recommend DDD Habitat Lodging House. Its strategically located and is near to the airport and various restaurants. The rooms are very clean and of course are priced for budget travelers and backpackers!

U Hotels Makati’s complimentary breakfast did not disappoint! Reception area

Being a budget-friendly hotel, I should say that I did not expect on U Hotels’ customer service. To my surprise, U Hotels staff are very welcoming and accommodating! We felt very special right the moment we arrived in U Hotel’s vicinity.  The guard immediately helped us securing a parking in front of the hotel. When we entered the lobby, U Hotel’s pleasing receptionists greeted and immediately accommodated us for check-in. There was even a staff who helped us carry our backpacks to our room. The waitresses in the hotel’s dining area are also very accommodating. With the superb customer service, we felt we were staying in a 4 star hotel.

Tip: If you are bringing a car, note that U Hotels has a limited parking space. Make sure to arrive before check-in to secure a parking.

Standard Double Room

We booked our U Hotels Makati room via Agoda and we had the Standard Double room for less than 2000 Php (38 USD). I was excited to see our room as the wall art in each U Hotels room is unique. I was wondering what would be the design on our room’s wall.

Standard Room at U Hotels

Standard Double Room at U Hotels

All U Hotels rooms have modern minimalist interiors with fusion of industrial design. Our room has an uneven cut and I like the fact that furnitures and fixtures were carefully and strategically arranged throughout the room. There is an open cabinet and beneath it is a personal refrigerator and a space for luggage. I personally love the modern and industrial design of the cabinet and would definitely love to have one at home!

The room also comes with a vanity area that can also be used as a work area. If you have valuables, there is also a safety deposit box. If you need something, front desk is just a call away as the room also has a telephone.

Work area

Work area

Across the work area is sofa bed, side table and the double bed. The bed is very comfortable and is at par with the ones you get to experience in high-end hotels. The linens and pillows are good too! I just wish that they would provide more than two pillows given that it is a double bed.

U Hotels Makati

U Hotels Makati

Across the sofa bed and the bed is an LCD cable TV. When we visited U Hotels, there was a notice inside the elevator that both cable TV and WiFi connection are currently being improved. So we only had few channels on the TV and weak internet connection. I’m pretty sure that U Hotels now has improved cable TV channels and strong internet connection.

Another surprise at U Hotels is its toilet and bath. Just like other high-end hotels, basic toiletries are provided.  The spacious toilet and bath are separated by a glass partition. There is a hot and cold shower and a generous volume of liquid soap and shampoo.  The water pressure is great too!

Best Budget Hotel in Poblacion, Makati?

As of this writing, I’ve tried 3 hotels in Poblacion, Makati and I should say that my favorite is U Hotels! It is strategically located and is near to restaurants, bars and malls. The entire hotel and its rooms are very clean and well maintained. And of course the customer service is good! Not to mention their free snacks 24/7 plus and their yummy complimentary breakfast!

Cheap Beach Resort in Bantayan Island Cebu – Beach Placid Resort Review

Beach Placid Resort in Bantayan Island Cebu is the perfect beach resort for backpackers and budget travelers.  Located along the stretch of Sta. Fe beach, Beach Placid Resort share the same shore with other more expensive and pricey resorts such as Anika Island Resort and Hoyohoy Villas.  Meaning, you get to enjoy the fine white sands and pristine waters of Santa Fe Bantayan Island without emptying your pocket.

Here is a short video of Beach Placid Resort:

Open Cottages, Beach Beds and Cabanas

Being a budget-friendly Bantayan resort, staying in Beach Placid will not limit you to enjoy and relax by the beach. There are open cottages, beach beds and cabanas in this affordable Bantayan beach resort. During our stay, we made use of their cottages and cabana by the beach without any charges.

Beachfront Surprise!

Jen enjoying the beachfront view on our room's veranda.

Jen enjoying the beachfront view on our room’s veranda.

Unlike other Bantayan beach resorts where beachfront rooms are quite expensive, Beach Pacid’s are affordable. We did not expect too much on the room we booked via Agoda as the fine print says it’s a Beach View Cottage. With the price, we assumed that we are getting a non-beachfront room.  However, we were surprised that the room was on a beachfront!

We checked-in at 3 beach resorts during our 4-day visit in Bantayan Island. We stayed at non-beachfront rooms of Anika Island Resort and Hoyohoy Villas Resort. But the cheapest accommodation we had was a beachfront room at Beach Placid.

Beach Placid’s Beach View Cottage (Beachfront Room)

Since we experienced Anika Island Resort’s accommodation prior to Beach Placid.  I should say that our room at Anika Island Resort was better than what we had at Beach Placid.  Nonetheless, the room was good and are truly for backpackers and budget-travelers.

The Beach View Cottage we booked has a small veranda and a bench.  If you are a smoker, the resort allows smoking in the veranda. The room comes with an air-conditioning unit, queen size bed, a small refrigerator and a dresser.  The toilet and bath is quite spacious. Toilet has no bidet but there is a hot and cold shower.  Only bath towels and tissue roll are provided so make sure to bring toiletries when you are checking-in at the resort.

I personally love the view once you open the door of the room. It is relaxing as you directly see the breathtaking beach and enjoy the relaxing sea winds right on your door. This what makes Beach Placid stand out from Anika or Hoyohoy, you get to experience a beachfront room at an affordable price!

Well Maintained Bantayan Island Beach Resort

Beach Placid

Beach Placid

Beach Placid Resort is well-maintained. During our entire stay, there are always someone who is around the resort. Since we visited on a season where winds push seaweeds on the shore, the staff ensures to always clean the beachfront.

Activities in Beach Placid

Beach Placid also offers island hopping tour at an affordable price. For only 900 Php, you get to enjoy Hilantagaan and Virgin Island. The boatman will pick you up right in the shore of Beach Placid. Note that rates outside the resort can go as low as 800 Php. We decided to take Beach Placid’s island hopping tour to ensure our safety.

Full body massage by the beach

Full body massage by the beach

If you get hungry, Beach Placid Resort has an open-air restaurant with affordable menu. They also have a bar and offers free karaoke (videoke) if you purchase sodas, shakes or any alcoholic beverages. If you want to relax, Beach Placid also offers in-room or by the beach massage service for only 350 Php.

Affordable Bantayan Resort with Great Customer Service

Being a budget beach resort, I did not expect anything grand about Beach Placid. I was not impressed by the reception when we checked-in at Anika but Beach Placid’s reception was different. The receptionists were very friendly and welcoming. They even allowed us to leave our bags in the reception as we were too early for the check-in.

Highly Recommended Resort in Bantayan for Budget Travellers and Backpackers

I highly recommend Beach Placid Resort if you are a backpacker or on a budget. Their rooms may not be as grand as Anika Island Resort and Hoyohoy Villas Resort, but are decent enough for the price. The entire beach resort is clean. Customer service is great. And of course, their rooms are very affordable.  Truly the best Bantayan beach resort for budget travellers!

Jen and I spotted these kids in the resort’s vicinity. We were happy to have distributed the toys we brought to the island. – Travel with a Purpose

Hoyohoy Villas – Boutique Beach Resort in Bantayan Island Cebu, Philippines + Blog Review, Room Rates

Hoyohoy Villas is one among the many resorts in the beautiful Bantayan Island in Cebu, Philippines. The only boutique resort in Bantayan Island, Hoyohoy Villas showcases unique villas, beautiful landscapes and peaceful atmosphere perfect for relaxation.

Here’s a short video of Hoyohoy Villas Bantayan Island:

Hoyohoy Villas Resort

Hoyohoy Villas Resort

Strategic Location

Located in F. Roska St., Talisay, Hoyohoy Villas is very near Santa Fe port – the gateway of Bantayan Island.   Hoyohoy Villas is just 5-minute tricycle or motorcycle ride away from the port. Meaning, you will not have to endure long travel to the resort once you arrive in Bantayan Island.

This Bantayan resort is also near to Sante Fe Poblacion where the public market, souvenir shops, church and most of the bars and restaurants are located.

Perfect Bantayan Resort for Relaxation

If you are looking for a resort to relax, Hoyohoy Villas is the best resort in Bantayan Island.  With only 6 villas and 2 casitas rooms, Hoyohoy Villas is definitely less crowded compared to more popular resorts in the island.  The peaceful ambiance makes Hoyohoy Villas stand out among the rest of Bantayan beach resorts.

Stylish beach beds

Lovely place to relax.

Lovely place to relax.

The resort’s beachfront has 2 stylish beach beads, 2 cabanas with pillows and mattresses and a wooden swing chair. There are also beach beds with leather mattresses around the resort’s vicinity.

Our favorite spot in Hoyohoy Villas!q

Our favorite spot in Hoyohoy Villas!

During our stay in Hoyohoy Villas, we felt like we rented the entire resort. There are only few guests and we rarely see them hanging out in the beachfront.

Unique Architecture and Beautiful Landscape

Pool

Hoyohoy Villa’s Iconic Swimming Pool

Being a boutique resort, Hoyohoy Villas will not disappoint you. It may be limited in real estate but it’s Instagram worthy surroundings compensates. Its villas are unique and the entire resort’s landscape is truly promising. The six villas in stilts are carefully arranged providing a good view of the stylish swimming pool right in the heart of the resort.

The Villas

Hoyohoy Villas has a total of 6 rice granary inspired villas. 5 of which have single rooms and the other villa has 2 rooms.  The villas are named after various kinds of winds:

  • Habagat (Southwest wind) – beachfront villa
  • Amihan (Cool Northeast Monsoon) – beachfront villa
  • Timog (Southwind)
  • Kanaway (Northwestern wind) – has 2 rooms
  • Syatan (Southwestern wind)
  • Kadulhoan (Southeastern wind)

Interestingly enough, villas invoke elegance of the past combined with comfort of the present. This creates a truly relaxing atmosphere during your stay in the resort. Each villa has a unique concept and are all simple and elegant. Rooms come with air-conditioning unit, cable TV, minibar, telephone for the reception. Toilet and batch comes with hot tub.

High-End Resort with Budget-Friendly Room Options

Hoyohoy Villas is one of the few high-end resorts in Bantayan Island.  There is undoubtedly a price to pay for the resort’s beautiful landscapes, unique villas, breathtaking beachfront, peaceful ambiance and great customer service. A villa is priced from 5,000 Php (approx. $100) to 6,000 Php (approx. $120). However, if you are on a budget and want to stay at Hoyohoy Villas, they offer 2 affordable and budget-friendly “Casitas Frangipani” rooms at only 3,000 Php a night.

Hoyohoy Villas Room Rates

  • Beachfront Villas (good for 2 persons)– 6,000 Php
  • Regular Villas(good for 2 persons) – 5,000 Php
  • Casitas Frangipani (good for 2 persons) – 3,000 Php

Tip: Instead of paying the publish room rate, you can enjoy huge discounts by booking your Hoyohoy villa/room HERE.

Hoyohoy Villas’ Casitas Room

The 2 Casitas rooms are located near the entrance and right before the reception of the resort.  It is technically the farthest from the beachfront but near the reception and restaurant. Being farthest to the beachfront is not an issue since you get to pass by and enjoy the beautiful landscape and architecture of the resort when you’re going to the beachfront.

Casitas Rooms

Casitas Rooms

Unlike the villas which scream elegance, Casitas rooms are simple and modern. The matching finish of doors and ceiling adds up to the modern feel. The white walls compliment to the floor of the entire room.

A Casitas room comes with an air-conditioning unit with remote, bed side glass tables, night lamps and stylish sofa. The bed and the 2 ordinary and 2 goose down pillows are very comfortable. There is also an interesting art piece above the bed headboard.

The toilet and bath was a surprise! Once you open the sliding door, the shower area with a natural light ceiling will greet you. The Zen like look and feel of the shower area is truly surprising! On the right of the shower area is the vanity area with huge mirror and basic Hoyohoy Villas toiletries. On the left is the toilet area accentuated by the wall art and a cool ladder-like towel rack.

Jen and I originally wanted a villa because of the outdoor shower. Since a villa is too expensive for us, we booked a Casistas room instead. Well, the Casitas room did not disappoint! We felt like we were staying in a hotel.

As of March 2018, there are only 2 available Casitas rooms and another 2 are under construction.

Tip: We paid 2,700+ Pesos (approx. $54) instead of 3,000 Php  (approx. $60)for the Casitas Frangipani Room. You too can enjoy a discounted villa/room by booking HERE.

Hoyohoy Villas’ Beachfront Villa (Amihan)

Beachfront Villa Habagat (rightmost villa)

Beachfront Villa Amihan (rightmost villa)

One of the two beachfront villas in Hoyohoy Villas is “Amihan”. The Villa Amihan’s ground level comes with a Spanish colonial era inspired furnitures and fixtures such as dining set, cabinet and a treasure chest and a single bed.

The second level is an elegant room with an air-conditioning unit, cable TV, mini refrigerator, bench, bed side table with a stylish lamp, human size mirror, dinette set, wooden speaker and a stylish sofa. I personally love the flat screen cable TV placed in an easel. Just like its ground level, the room’s Filipino-Spanish colonial inspired design is truly elegant.  Something that art and history lovers will love!

Just like the Casitas room, the villa’s toilet and bath is also a surprise! It comes with the basic Hoyohoy Villas toiletries, bath tub and an outdoor garden shower!

Superb Customer Service

We checked-in at 3 beach resorts during our 4-day Bantayan Island visit – Anika Island Resort, Beach Placid and Hoyohoy Villas. Among these 3 Bantayan beach resorts, I should say that Hoyohoy Villas has the best customer service!

Welcome drinks

Leah, one of the staff, serves the welcome drinks

We were warmly and greeted upon our arrival in the resort. After the fast check-in, Leah, one of the resort’s staff, surprised us by serving welcome drinks. We also borrowed a knife, pate and forks for the mangoes we bought outside.  They did not hesitate and immediately provided our request.

All the staff are accommodating and polite. Throughout our stay, given that we booked their cheapest room, we felt special and valued just like other guests who were staying in the more expensive villas.

I even asked Leah if I can take photos and videos of one of their villas. After waiting for a couple of minutes, they granted my request! I was able to check-out their most expensive beachfront villa!

Lastly, we were a bit beyond the 12 PM check-out as we were still packing our things. They allowed us to stay a little longer without extra cost. They even proactively arranged a tricycle that will bring us to the Santa Fe port right after our check-out.

Highly Recommended Bantayan Beach Resort

I would definitely recommend Hoyohoy Villas if you are visiting Bantayan Island in Cebu.  Location is strategic.  The resort’s atmosphere is serene and peaceful. The villas are beautiful and elegant and the Casitas rooms are neat and stylish. And of course, customer service is great! I would definitely check-in here on my next Bantayan Island visit!

  • Tripadvisor – 4 out of 5 (Excellent)
  • Agoda – 8.4 out of 10 (Excellent)
  • Travelbook – 4.6 out of 5 (Excellent)

Anika Island Resort

The rating and reviews made us decide to book Anika Island Resort for our first night in Bantayan Island. For a discounted room rate, we booked our Anika Island Resort cottage via Travelbook. Like us, you too can enjoy huge discounts by booking HERE or HERE.

Hassle Free Check-In

Upon arriving in Sta.Fe port, we hailed a tricycle to bring us to Anika Island Resort. Travel time from port to the resort is roughly 5 minutes. Fare is 20 Php ($0.40) per person.

The check-in process was a breeze. I just told them that I booked thru Travelbook.  The Anika Island Resort reception asked me to fill-out a short guest information form. And that’s it! They did not bother to ask for the booking reference number.

Good Customer Service

Most online reviews indicate that Anika Island Resort has good customer service. The reception experience upon our check-in was okay but Jason, the staff who assisted us to our room, made us feel very special.  He was very polite and helpful. Jason carried our bags while heading us to our cottage. He even shared useful information about the tourists attractions and some useful tips during our stay in the island. Apart from Jason, the staff especially the guards were very helpful. The check-out was also a breeze and the staff in the reception were very friendly.

Iconic Sun-Basking Area

Anika Bantayan Island Cebu Philippines

Anika Island Resort

Among all Bantayan Island Resorts, Anika Island Resort has the most beautiful and iconic beach bed area. They have this huge Anika signage which is guests and passers-by have their pictures taken.

Unique and Neatly Arranged Cottages

Anika Island Resort’s property is small in land area. However, they utilized its limited real estate and ensured that the swimming pool, cottages and other facilities are strategically situated. Also, this Bantayan resort has unique and beautiful cottages which walls are primarily made of container vans.

Well-Kept Surroundings and Beachfront

Common areas such as the beachfront, garden and restaurant are always clean. During our entire stay at Anika Island Resort, we often see resort’s staff cleaning around the resort. Since we visited on a season where there are seaweeds in the beachfront, there is a designated staff who makes sure to clean and remove the seaweeds on the shore.

Anika Island Resort’s Garden View Room

Garden View Cottages Anika Resort Bantayan

Garden View Cottages Anika Resort Bantayan

Since an Ocean View Room is too pricey for us, we opted to book a Garden View Room via Travelbook. We booked the room at 2,544 Php (approx. $50.88) instead of 2,700 Php (approx. $54).

The room or should I say the cottage has a veranda with a dinette set. This is also the area in your cottage where smoking is allowed. The room comes with an LCD cable TV, air-conditioning unit, closet and safe deposit box. We personally loved the comfortable bed and 3 pillows. Our only rant is the Wifi which we weren’t able to use to slow internet connection.

The toilet and bath come with bath towels, soap and toothpaste.  There is hot and cold shower and the toilet has a bidet. The water pressure was good too. Overall, the room and the toilet and bath are very clean.
